Vandring

At the lower end of the market square there is a “Kursächsische Postdistanzsäule” from 1732 with travel times to various Saxon and other cities, which even back then gave exact distances of up to an eighth of an hour.

A restored post mile column from 1732. The post mile columns go back to the surveying of Saxony by Zürner at the beginning of the 18th century. The information is journey hours (1 journey hour = 4.5 km)

"A post mile marker, colloquially known as a Saxon post mile marker or simply a post marker, is a milestone that indicates distances and walking times to within one-eighth of an hour. The design of the markers varies depending on the distance." - de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurs%C3%A4chsische_Postmeilens%C3%A4ule
The marker in Dohna is a distance marker. On the shaft of the marker, the direction of travel is written in Gothic style and is based on distance tables developed for each town.

Dohna was also the first stop on the Old Dresden-Teplitz Post Road, which is still signposted next to the marker today.
