Direct testimony to the First World War, Forte Corno was part of the five original fortifications that formed the "Lardaro barrier" and made up an imposing defensive system, which dominated and controlled the Chiese Valley from above. Forte Corno offers a structure of great value in the context of military architecture, 54 rooms and a good state of conservation.

The Forte Corno fortress is one of the most important and best-preserved military buildings in western Trentino. The dominant position at 1,100 m altitude on the right slope of the Chiesetal made it possible to control the roads through the Val di Daone and to Roncone, with a simultaneous connection to the valley through a military road and a trench line. The fortress was part of the Judiciary barrier and closed the valley against artillery attacks on one of the main access routes to South Tyrol.
