According to the story, in 1883 a young woman from Gharb had a Marian apparition when she passed the chapel that was then in place. From inside, she heard the voice of the Mother of God asking her to pray three Ave Maria. After the woman did so, her seriously ill mother recovered unexpectedly. In 1932 the present church was consecrated and its importance is underlined by the visit of a pope.

Beautiful basilica, with special finishes on the inside.
Outside in the square are mosaic walls, just fantastic to see.
Definitely worth taking a look.
