Montcuq is dominated by a keep. This mighty tower was once the last refuge of a 13th century castle. Only this tower survived the crusade against the Cathars. Montcuq was one of the communities that supported the Cathars. The GR 65 hiking trail, which goes through Montcuq, leads to the Pyrenees, the former stronghold of the Cathars.
