Vandring

The Isartor is located at the end of the "valley" on the eastern part of the former Munich city wall. The gate, which was completed in 1337, has an approximately 40-meter-high tower and was Munich's main gate to the Salzstrasse. Today it separates the old town from the Isarvorstadt and Lehel.

The Isartor is one of three surviving city gates of Munich's medieval city fortifications and is located at the eastern end of the Old Town. It was built in the 14th century under Ludwig the Bavarian and served to protect the city. Particularly striking is the central gate tower, featuring a fresco depicting Emperor Ludwig's triumphal procession. Today, the Isartor houses the Valentin-Karlstadt Museum, dedicated to the famous Munich comedian couple Karl Valentin and Liesl Karlstadt. The Isartor is an important historical building and commemorates Munich's medieval history.

And among many other stories about the gate, it is worth mentioning that the clock on the main tower on the west side runs in the opposite direction. According to the motto "In Bavaria the clocks run differently"
