Before you are allowed onto the bridge, you are given a little explanation about the bridge itself in Portuguese and English. After that, you are allowed onto the bridge on your own, but a ranger always walks with you at the end to keep an eye on everyone in the group. Children under 6 are not allowed, and to be allowed onto the bridge you need to make an online reservation, which must be made in any weather (except wind with speeds of more than 40 km/h). A grace period of just 15 minutes is permitted.

The 516-meter-long 516 Arouca Bridge is one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world. It is located in the municipality of Arouca, in the district of Porto, and integrates the Arouca World Geopark of UNESCO, next to the Aguieiras Waterfall. It crosses the Paiva River and is the central point of the bridge at a height of 175 meters overlooking the river.

It was designed by the Itecons Institute, in Coimbra, a project that began in 2016 and was presented to the public in May 2021.
