The NSG Süggel was until the late 19th century hunting grounds of the lords of the county Dormund. Thus, the forest was spared an economic use and he has preserved his natural tree population until today. Numerous cycling and hiking trails lead through the forest. There is also a small game reserve where some fallow deer live.
