This is how the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands got its start - the contrast to the current AH XL could hardly be greater.

A copy of the first grocery store in Oostzaan, dating from 1887, was made in Zaanse Schans. Ancient wooden buildings from the Zaan region are brought together here with the intention of preserving them. In one of these buildings, mostly inhabited by private individuals, the first original Albert Heijn store was reconstructed as a museum and opened on May 23, 1967. The original shop in Oostzaan no longer exists.
