The patronage "Maria (or Mariä) Himmelfahrt" of this church in Bad Neustadt an der Saale refers to one of the many commemorative days or feast days in honor of the Mother of God Maria. It goes back to the feast of their physical acceptance into heaven, which the Church celebrates annually on August 15th. In many rural areas it is customary that on this day herbal bundles (called "Kruggweusch" in the Rhenish dialect) are collected by the population and blessed in the festival service.
