In 2009 Queen Beatrix unveiled the National Inland Shipping monument.
It was made by the Frisian artist Ids Willemsma. The artwork is a posthumous tribute to Schuttevâer, a champion of inland shipping in the nineteenth century and 'the keeper of Schokland'. That is why it is deliberately located at the former harbor of Schokland.

Just as a buoy was a beacon in the Zuiderzee, this monument is a beacon in the wide landscape. The monument – a design by the Frisian artist Ide Willemsma – draws attention to the history of inland shipping and is a token of appreciation for the inland shipping skippers at Schokland.
