Vandring

In 1866, Hermann von Maltzan founded the von MALTZANEUM, creating the first public natural history museum in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1957 it was combined with the local history museum under the name Müritz Museum. In 2005, the MÜRITZEUM project began with the conversion of the historic museum building into the House of Collections and the construction of a second large exhibition building.

This is where the origins of the Mürizeum can be found. Here in 1866, Hermann Freiherr von Maltzan founded the "von Maltzan's Natural History Museum for Mecklenburg". The extensive natural history collection of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which has been part of the Müritzeum since 2006, has been located here since 1956.
