The path up the mountain begins here, at the northern end of the village of Alenberg. Between 1663 and 1680, Salentin Ernst von Manderscheid-Blankenheim had a way of the cross built in the form of seven sandstone crosses along a path that leads to a hilltop. During Holy Week processions take place from the Gothic church of St. Agatha (1494) to the Alendorfer Kalvarienberg.

Seven sandstone crosses lead to Calvary. The term Calvary comes from the Latin "calvariae" and, like the Greek "golgotha", means place of the skull and thus refers to the place of execution of Jesus outside the gates of Jerusalem.
The last station of the cross is on the 524 m high summit.
