Pope Pius XII has proclaimed 1954 the Year of the Virgin Mary and chapels have been built in many places around the world as a result.
In many towns, villages, hamlets or along country roads in response to the encyclical “Fulgens corona” (the halo) you will find chapels of Mary.
Also here on the Ekelendries, the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of Mary's Immaculate Conception is commemorated by the small house of worship.
Chapel Ekelendries 1954 is in need of renovation.
