The Dortebach valley was placed under nature protection as early as 1930 and is therefore the oldest nature reserve along the Moselle. After the last ice age, a special microclimate developed in the Dortebach valley, which offers a habitat for rare plants and animals from the Mediterranean countries, from the Black Sea and also from the Alps.
