This museum traces life in the Tournai region between 1800 and 1950. It recalls the things of life (birth, baptism, school, professions, military service…) but also everyday life with its household objects, the fashion of the past, companies (including the Royale Compagnie du Cabaret Wallon Tournaisien) and art movements (porcelain, carpets, pewter, printing…). It recalls calendar customs, festivals (folklore parades…) and traditional folk games (including a very beautiful horseshoe throwing game). You can also discover Tournai under Louis XIV thanks to its large relief plan.

Installed in an authentic 17th century building, the Folklore Museum of Tournai tells about all ages of everyday life.
You will see varied collections on multiple subjects: old crafts, printed matter, porcelain, religion, carnival, dolls, giants, medicine, education, fashion, associations, music, but also models of old Tournai (especially the relief map of Louis XIV).
The museum also deals with poverty and invites the visitor to develop his sensitivity and reflection.
This museum tells the history from 1800 to now and will help you understand society better, while visiting family!
