The Ems-Jade Canal was built between 1880 and 1888. It was built because of the need to supply the ships of the Imperial Navy in the Imperial naval port of Wilhelmshaven with coal from the Ruhr area. To do this, the Ems had to be connected to Wilhelmshaven as a waterway by a canal.

The Ems-Jade Canal (EJK) connects the Ems near Emden in East Frisia with the Jade Bay near Wilhelmshaven.
It bears the brunt of the East Frisian drainage infrastructure, which makes long-term habitation in the region possible.
The canal is operated and maintained by the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) - Aurich office, on the last 5.44 kilometers before Wilhelmshaven on behalf of the federal government (Waterways and Shipping Directorate Northwest in Aurich), because this route is too the so-called other inland waterways of the federal government.

I wouldn't come here because of the building structure. This is rather simple. However, the view of the water against the sun is really beautiful. The promenade is beautifully laid out
