The former castle of Lichtenberg has a fairly long history and was even briefly the headquarters of the Duke of Alva at the start of the Eighty Years' War. In the eighteenth century the building fell into disrepair and today only the ruins of the keep remain. This was added in the nineteenth century to the Lichtenberg farm, which was built on the castle grounds in the eighteenth century. So it is actually not a castle farm. This castle ruin is a remnant of one of the rare high bastions in the Netherlands. Only a small part of the ruin has been preserved. Only the North wing and the keep (tower).

Below the ruin lies the Slavante corridor system.

The location is only accessible during the day.

The closed farm that you find here was built in the eighteenth century and was called Hoeve Lichtenberg. It was built on the site of Lichtenberg Castle, which was already in serious disrepair. The keep of Lichtenberg Castle has been part of the farm's domain since the nineteenth century. That keep, say the tower and a small part of the wall, is slightly at the rear left of the courtyard of the farm. There are beautiful views everywhere and the farm is also more than worth a visit in terms of heritage.
