Catalina Thomas was born in Valldemossa in 1531 and attracted attention even as a young girl through her piety - among other things, she built an altar in a field with her own hands. Miracles and visions are said to have happened there, but the young woman also withstood temptations. Later, with the help of a benefactor, she joined the Augustinian nuns in Palma. She died in this monastery in 1574. She was beatified in 1792 and canonized in 1930.

Vandring

Catalina Thomàs remains the only Mallorcan woman to be canonized and is venerated throughout the island. Painted tiles depicting scenes from her life can be found on house walls everywhere, but especially frequently in Valldemossa.

A small chapel was established in her honor in the house where she was born.

Born in 1531 in Valldemossa, Catalina grew up in humble circumstances and showed a deep devotion to prayer from an early age. She built her own small altar in a field and spent many hours there in communion with God.
