    In documents from 1272 the castle was mentioned as a moated castle with a stone tower, residential and farm buildings. It was in the 8th / 9th Century a Slavic fortification. After the town fire in 1545, the castle was built on these foundation walls in the Renaissance style under Duke Moritz as an economic and hunting castle and a few years later under Elector August it was completed as a four-wing complex with a late Gothic chapel.

    The castle was first mentioned in 1272 as "castrum mulberch". At that time still as a moated castle of the Lords of Ileburg, which protected a crossing over the Elbe. ... The castle housed the administration of the Mühlberg district in the following centuries. The castle was a district court, prison and since 1859 the main customs office. Today it is used privately.
