    With the Marian Year (1954: 3rd part of the "Messages of Mary") a Lourdes cave was built.
    The city council gave its permission to build the cave on the grounds of the presbytery. For the construction of the cave, 25,000 kg of rock was brought from Spontin to Impe.
    On October 24, 1954, the cave was opened by E.H. D'Hollander, Dean of Wetteren, consecrated.
