The town church, with its distinctive 66-meter tower, dominates the townscape. The church's namesake is also the town's patron saint. Formerly a castle, the old town and the church now stand on a roughly 700-meter-long sandstone plateau that rises approximately 25 meters above the Saale River.

The town church stands on the walls of a defense complex of a castle, which was on a 700 meter long plateau 25 meters above the hall level. After the city fire in 1410, the church was built on the ruins, among other things. Share built. From 1791 to 1793 the town church was given its current appearance.
