The caves in Alderley Edge are the remains of minework that was carried out here from as early as the Roman and Brone Ages! Written records show that mining continued here up until the 1920s, with obvious gaps inbetween.
The mines are sometimes opened up to the public for guided tours, if this is something you're interested in you can check out dates and times here derbyscc.org.uk/alderley/current_visiting.php
