Around 1850, the people of Lauthausen built a half-timbered chapel in the middle of their village, from which Christian von Lauthausen came, the founder of the pilgrimage church in Bödingen. The colorful chapel windows remind of the Bödingen pilgrimage and Christian von Lauthausen.
The chapel was only consecrated to Saint Joseph after the renovation in 1965, in honor of the priest Josef Frings, who came from Lauthausen, worked mainly in Bonn and was buried in Bödingen in 1931.

This chapel in Lauthausen is dedicated to Saint Joseph (Joseph), the foster father of Jesus Christ. Like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold between the Old and the New Testament. Joseph was from the house of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by trade and the fiancé of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The commemoration day of Saint Joseph in the calendar of saints is on March 19th, and on May 1st the church celebrates the feast of “Joseph the Worker”.
