The Luther Church is one of the three churches in the Evangelical Lutheran South City Church community of Osnabrück and the oldest of them. It was built in 1907-1909 by the architect Karl Börgemann in pure Art Nouveau style based on the "Wiesbaden Program" (1890) for Protestant church building. Its special feature is the ornamental painting based on Viennese models, which has been extensively restored. Unique in northern Germany. The Luther Church is an "Open Church" (Feb.-Nov. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). [suedstadtkirchengemeinde.de/wir_ueber_uns/Geb-ude/lutherkirche] Definitely worth seeing!

The masonry was renovated between 1985 and 1989. The Art Nouveau painting, which had been covered with a white coat of emulsion paint in the 1950s, was also restored by the Bremen restorer Klaus Thönes and his colleagues.
