Vandring

The city of Mainz has always been of great military importance. Even the Romans, under General Drusus (9 BC-37 AD), established a camp for two legions. In the Middle Ages, during the Frankish period, a tight ring of fortifications was built around the city, which in modern times hindered the city's growth and is now part of the "green lung."
