The Renaissance castle Horst stands on the site of a medieval castle that was badly damaged by fire in 1554 and was owned by the ministerial noble family von der Horst.

Located in the center of Horst on historical grounds.

Restored through the tireless efforts of committed Horst citizens, Horst Castle is now considered the most important Renaissance building in the Ruhr area and is also one of the oldest and most important Renaissance buildings in Westphalia.

Horst Castle is a place steeped in history. In the castle there is not only the registry office, but also a historical exhibition on the history of Gelsenkirchen-Horst and the Emscherbruch. Very interesting.

Vandring

Horst Castle is a Renaissance building from the 16th century that has only been partially preserved but is still well worth seeing. The adventure museum in the castle 🏰 provides insights into life and work on a noble residence in the 16th century. The museum is open every day except Saturdays from 3 p.m. (Sundays from 11 a.m.) to 6 p.m. and there is no entry fee.
The very large parking lot at Horst Castle is unsuitable for hikers due to the parking time limit (3 hours).
