Great corner in the Reichswald the old quarry. Absolutely worth seeing and in connection
with the Wildpferdgehege you can make a great tour :)

In this quarry, sandstone was mined for the area. A very interesting site with an intact basement and various mining sites, caution is advised. The name "Ohrwaschl" was taken from an older quarry that was already in this area in 1600.

Up until 110 years ago, there was a thriving inn in the Ohrshampoo forest area, where the hiking trails from Erlangen to Kalchreuth and from Nuremberg-Neunhof to Dormitz cross. Today only the former rock cellar remains.

How did that happen? Many old houses in the towns and villages in our area are built of sandstone. These stones were mostly quarried in the Reichswald around Nuremberg, especially in the Tennenloher Forest. The blocks were taken away by cart, worked by stonemasons and then sold as building blocks.
