A beautiful beach that is part of the largest seaside resort in the department. Bordered by many restaurants and cafes, the central part is very lively, especially in the summer.
This beach was one of the sites of Operation Dynamo in 1940. 340,000 British, Belgian and French soldiers were evacuated from the beaches and port of Dunkirk, and headed for England.

A depressing feeling creeps around you when you think about the history of Operation Dynamo here on the beach. The fear, hope, pain and suffering of the soldiers waiting here in the sand are palpable. "Hundreds of thousands" were waiting on the beach to be evacuated from the besieged city, and a total of around 340,000 Allied soldiers were rescued from French Dunkirk to England.
