The High Court at Lechlumer Holz served as the main place of jurisdiction for the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel from the 16th century to mid-1759. The facility is located on a hilltop (Galgenberg) above the Oker on the northwestern edge of Lechlumer Holzes, a small piece of forest on the old army road that ran from Wolfenbüttel via Stöckheim and Melverode to Braunschweig. The remains of the execution site can still be seen today.

The topping-out site "Hohes Gericht" on the north-western edge of Lechlumer Holz is a historical testimony to the dubious "jurisprudence" in the late Middle Ages.
