Monte Priaforà (1659m a.s.l.) takes its name from the large natural arch of rock located under the summit: from the Venetian dialect 'prìa forà', perforated stone.
During the Great War, it was a crucial node for the conquest of Novegno and the advance towards the plain by the Austro-Hungarian army: for this reason it was bitterly contested during the Strafexpedition of 1916; later, with the withdrawal of the imperials, it was fortified by the Italians with various military works and above all with a majestic and complex tunnel dug into its bowels.
