The S’Albufera Natural Park is the most important wetland area of the Balearic Islands and is protected by two internationally significant declarations: in 1987 it was declared a SPECIAL BIRD AREA (ZEPA) and an INTERNATIONAL SIGNIFICANT AREA ACCORDING TO THE RAMSAR CONVENTION. The 1646 hectare nature park is located on the north-east coast of Mallorca near Port de Alcudia. The swampy terrain covers an area of approximately 2,850 hectares and is 32 kilometers in diameter. the area borders the municipalities of Alcúdia, Muro and Sa Pobla and is of exceptional economic and environmental importance for this area of the island.
