The STIER is a tug that hauled and maneuvered ships in Bremen ports.
The harbor tug with Voith Schneider propellers can be seen and walked through in the museum harbor.
One of the exhibits shown in the open-air museum of the German Maritime Museum is a “water tractor” called the STIER, which was built according to a completely new concept.
The goal was a particularly powerful, agile and at the same time very safe boat that could tow and maneuver large ships that were difficult to navigate in the port area.

How does a ship float? How is it constructed? What does a ship consist of? What does a ship do with the sea? And how does research shipping gain knowledge from the sea? The new permanent exhibition "Ship Worlds - The Ocean and Us" in the Bangert building of the German Maritime Museum (DSM) / Leibniz Institute for Maritime History provides answers. After around two years of construction, it invites visitors to discover ships and their stories, learn about the forces of the sea and see how to deal with them on 2,800 square meters.
