The medium-sized church is located in a slightly elevated position in the center of the town and is surrounded on three sides by a walled churchyard. The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius in Altenbanz, a part of the Upper Franconian town of Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district, dates back to a stone church that already existed around 800.

The village Altenbanz was proven in the year 4500 BC. populated. The village is Urpfarrei, in which already around 800 a stone church was built. In the middle of the village stands today the church of St. Lawrence. Inside you can admire the late Baroque interior.
Altenbanz was once an important traffic junction, because here crossed the trade routes Hallstadt - Erfurt and Frankfurt am Main - Bohemia.

Cykling

The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius, a gable roof building with a recessed chancel and ridge turret, is late Gothic in its core. Conversion and repair work took place in 1645-48. After a fire in 1688, large parts of the nave were rebuilt. The late Baroque interior of the church dates from the 18th century.
