In 1817, the dilapidated St. Peter's Church was demolished and replaced by the current building. The new church was built of fieldstones, consecrated on August 29, 1819, and dedicated to the Apostle Peter.

The interior of the church was redesigned in 1959/60, during which the galleries on the north and south sides, which also housed the patron's pew belonging to the estate owners' family, were removed.

The oil painting "Adoration of the Child" (late 18th century) on the altar comes from the previous church.
