The village of Krukow was first documented in the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230 as Crukowe. It was founded by Slavic settlers in the 11th century.
The place name goes back to Old Polabian *Krukov and is a combination of Old Polabian *kruk "raven, crow" and the possessive suffix -ov, meaning "settlement near the crows."
Today, Krukow is a small village located almost in the middle of Lauenburg, Schwarzenbek, and Geesthacht, and therefore enjoys a good location despite its small size.
