Vandring
The Ilau-Schneegraben is a connection between Marschwetter and Ilmenau in the Elbmarsch west of Winsen (Luhe). Originally these are old tributaries of the Elbe, which were cut off from the river by the dike.
By creating artificial connections and filling in old rivers, a construct that could hardly be called natural was created. Today's Ilau snow ditch combines parts of the original snow ditch, the old Ilau and the old Ilmenau to form a new type of water that drains approx. 95 km² of the Elbmarsch. Some parts of the original waters have been preserved as tributaries.

The main Ilau-Schneegraben canal leads to the Laßrönne pumping station on the Ilmenau. It collects the water from the many ditches to drain the fields in the Elbmarsch between Laßrönne and Drage.

Vandring
The already quite unspectacular Ilau snow ditch is probably a little more beautiful in the summer months. But in winter the ditch and the surrounding area are quite unattractive for my taste.
