The court pharmacist and important biologist Wilhelm Baur played a key role in the construction of a footpath from Döggingen through the Gauchach Gorge to the mouth of the Wutach. The hiking trail opened in 1905 bears the name Wilhelm-Baur-Weg in his honour. In 1927, the Donaueschingen Black Forest Association installed a commemorative plaque in the Gauchach Gorge.

The smoothly polished rock catches the eye as one moves along the winding path below the ridge, which is overgrown with all sorts of greenery.
The monument pays tribute to the moss scientist Wilhelm Baur, who established himself as a researcher and pharmacist at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Century made a name. Forgotten today, this stone still adorns the Gauchach, watches over its flow and is also a remarkable place for hikers to visit.
