Wide meadows that function as flood meadows. The path is quite difficult, especially when it is cold and/or windy. It is nice to see how it goes up both in the direction of Schwabach/Katzwang train station and in the direction of Katzwang/Neukatzwang. The river has dug this bed for itself.

Vandring

Farmers are allowed to use dam boards, so-called dams, to divert water from the river (here the Rednitz) and irrigate the fields and meadows.
The cultural technique of Franconian water meadow use has been recognized as a cultural heritage of Bavaria since 2020. It increases biodiversity in the Rednitz valley.

Vandring

By damming the water with the help of wooden gates, the water flows over the shoulder of the ditch and slowly trickles over the meadows and seeps away or flows back into the water.
The meadows in the Rednitzaue between the Gerasmühle and the Schwarzach are irrigated between May and September via a widely branched network, depending on the drought. The predominantly sandy, dry and rather nutrient-poor soils have thus been supplied with more water and nutrients for hundreds of years.
