The basin that currently occupies this lake was the object of mining exploitation for a long time. The coal industry was the livelihood of the people until the seventies of this century; however, this lake did not last as long. In the 1950s, workers at the mine came across an underground spring and unforeseen flooding caused them to abandon their work.

Many activities are currently practiced in the lake, including cave diving.

Also called Lago de Mirador, it is located very close to the urban center, a few meters from the Iron Bridge. The lake occupies the extraction hole of open pit coal mining in the 1970s.
