Franconian dune path
fraenkischer-duenenweg.jpg
Dunes in Franconia? As paradoxical as it may sound, there are. But if you think of shimmering heat when you think of dunes, you are wrong - cutting cold winds and storms piled up mighty dunes here in Franconia during the last two ice ages, which shape the landscape to this day. Rivers and streams were dried up or frozen. Most of the dunes are now forested, and the streams and rivers have opened up a new course.
