The Sendero Huércal La Vieja (PR-A 323) runs along the eastern end of the Sierra de Almagro. It is in the Levante Almeriense region at the crossroads of the Mediterranean corridor, and all the gorges and ravines in the municipality flow into the Almanzora river basin.

This old ruins seems to have been a small fortress, which, nestled in an exceptional viewpoint, allowed the intercommunication of all the towers and castles in the lower part of the Almanzora Valley.
It was probably a "rábita", a kind of Muslim hermitage or monastery, where religious men (marabouts) prayed and carried out defensive and support functions for the traveler, who went to the Estancias, Lorca or the Gudalentin.
