there are two church services at the weekend (three in the winter months) in the Jakobi Church. It is also popular as a baptismal, wedding and concert church. The Jakobi Church is an important stopover on the newly developed Way of St. James from Minden via Herford to Soest.

The Jakobi Church bears the name of the apostle James the Elder, who died as a martyr in 44 AD. In the pre-Reformation period, the Jakobi Church was one of the many stops made by pilgrims on their way to the tomb of the apostle in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In this country, the Jakobi Church is better known under the name "Radewiger Kirche", so called after the
District around the Gänsemarkt, which today is called "the Radewig" and which has been called "Roter Wik" since the 9th century.
