Vandring

The Almkanal carries water that comes directly from the Königssee (Königsseer Ache) and from the Hintersee (Ramsauer Ache). The water for the Almkanal is diverted at the border to Bavaria (Berchtesgadener Land). The fresh water from the mountains has been used to supply drinking water and to drive mills and other trades since the Middle Ages.
The grinding operation of the Praxmayer mill was stopped in 2003. The Kaplan turbine installed in 1952 continues to generate electricity (28 KW) for its own use with a low head of only 94 cm, the rest is supplied to the grid.
