The Fingals Cave Coming from Obernzenn in the direction of Sontheim on the hill to the left into the so-called "Panzerstraße" and after another 200 meters follow a narrow path into the forest, you will look in vain for a real cave.
The so-called Fingals Cave in Illesheim is an abandoned sandstone quarry. It is located in a wooded area near the road connecting Obernzenn and Sontheim.

After no sandstone was mined at this point, the terrain cut during the Thirty Years' War and the Napoleonic campaigns served the population as a hiding place or the military as a camp.
In addition, the wild and romantic place became a popular destination for the society of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially the inhabitants of Obernzenner castles and their guests.
Numerous inscriptions carved into the stone walls, up to five meters high, are reminiscent of former visitors and events.
