"The Lords of Diest, who ruled over the city and its surroundings in the Middle Ages, chose a strategic place for the magnificent castle, since then known as the castle hill. After the French Revolution, the domain came into private hands after which the last owner took it into 1939 gave to the city of Diest with the express wish to make it accessible to all inhabitants."

Vandring

De Warande is a Diestian iron sandstone hill in the middle of the city, with a keep and traces of a 14th century castle. The park was laid out in a landscape style circa 1880, with the keep as a lime arbor at its center. The park contains archaeological remains, a fence wall, drossard house with porter's house and a neoclassical mansion (1847-1848) transformed into a monumental entrance gate. The domain is also surrounded by a 1500 m long wall of 3 m high

Vandring

In the protected Warande Park there are many remains of walls and a well from a castle from the thirteenth century. The Warande is a witness hill made of iron sandstone that was previously mined on site. The amphitheater in the Warande Park was an extraction pit. The unique path structure can already be found on maps from 1700. At the request of park visitors, an educational route was also set up in the park. More: diest.be/speelbos-de-warande
