    Woitek is one of two bears that served in the polish army and by far the most famous. The Syrian brown bear was bought by a polish soldier in Iran. To provide him with rations he was enlisted and eventually became the mascot of the army group. He helped transporting ammunition during the battle of Monte Cassino. After the war he lived the rest of his live in a zoo in Birmingham.
