Vandring

The 260 m difference in altitude from the crater rim in Fira down to the Old Port is easily covered on foot, and back as well.
Please do not take donkeys or mules. This cruelty to animals must stop and be boycotted.

Vandring

It's a good 300 meters difference in altitude and 588 steps. Quite challenging in the blazing sun. That's why I did it at 09:00 in the morning. Then the steps are still in the shade and you can enjoy going down and up. The old port is already very dilapidated, but it still has its little charm.
There is also a gondola lift that goes up quickly.

Vandring

Simply cruel. Donkeys standing along the trail at 35 Grad Celsius without any water or a possibility to rest in a shady place. Donkeys seemed to be sick an apathic.
Officially there is a restriction of weight of carriage but in reality nobody cared about that.
Very sad experience that lowers the beauty of this place drastically.
Please go by feet or take the cable car.
