One of the most famous of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. A great site to visit but incredibly busy.

There is no question that the Giant's Causeway is a fascinating whim of nature that, with its 4- to 6-cornered basalt columns, has become the most visited attraction in Northern Ireland.
Ireland's only natural monument was created around 60 million years ago by a volcanic eruption of the earth's crust, traces of which can be found from the coast of Antrim to the Inner Hebrides off Scotland.
The volcano has disappeared, the basalt columns have remained.
