Colourfulness of late medieval buildings: The facade painting of the characteristic rear building "Zum Goldenen Löwen", originally applied around 1580, is just one painting of many on the buildings dating from the Middle Ages. Although the painting has been largely reconstructed, the high artistic standard of the original decoration can be easily guessed. The largest city in the four-country region is the most richly decorated city in the German-speaking area with wall paintings. Starting from the former Dominican monastery, especially the Gothic frescoes spread throughout the world from the 13th century.

Contrary to what it says on the facade, the house was built in 1295. This goes back to a transcription error from the Baroque period. At that time it was the highest secular building in the city, which explains the name of the house.
