Vandring

As a permanent loan of the Halterner Cultural Foundation Masthoff remembers in 2003 by the Rietberger artist dr. Wilfried Koch created sculpture "The failed Varus" to the Roman general, who went down in 9 AD with his troops in Germania. The chosen location near the medieval city tower is said to connect the early Roman with the later urban history of Haltern.

The failed Varus is a bronze sculpture created by the artist Wilfried Koch.
The sculpture depicting the defeated commander Varus at the moment of defeat and failure after the Varus Battle is a full 2.30 meters high and weighs 650 kg.
Particularly striking are the distinctive hands of the sculpture, which became the artist's trademark as the so-called "cook's hands".
